Week Three Prompt Response
1. I am looking for a book by Laurell K. Hamilton. I just read the third book in the Anita Blake series and I can’t figure out which one comes next! The fourth book is called the “Lunatic Café,” and as a heads up, the fifth book is called “Bloody Bones.” 2. What have I read recently? Well, I just finished this great book by Barbara Kingsolver, Prodigal Summer. I really liked the way it was written, you know, the way she used language. I wouldn't mind something a bit faster paced though. If you liked that read, I would also suggest “Bloodroot” by Amy Green. This book is a bit faster paced, but it still has a similar writing style that is lyrical like Kingsolver’s style. I would also recommend “Frog Music” by Emma Donoghue. She also has a similar writing style that is lush and lyrical but is faster paced. If you are looking for an author similar to Kingsolver, I would recommend Annie Dillard who has a writing style that is descriptive, lush, richly detailed and lyrical. 3. I like rea...

Hi Darla!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds so interesting! I wouldn’t call myself a nature person, but that would be why I would pick up this book as a way of broadening my horizon and reading something that I would not normally read. This strangely makes me think of a main character of a book that I am currently reading. In “The Blue Castle” by L.M. Montgomery, Valancy Stirling (main character) loves to read nature books by a fictional author named John Foster. She sometimes quotes passages from his books, and they’re usually nature-related. These quotations make me appreciate nature a bit more than I previously had. By the way, I just put this book on hold at my library! Can’t wait to read it!
Alisha,
DeleteI'm so excited for you to read it!! It is such a quick read and will totally change your perspective on trees!
Hi Darla,
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds fascinating! I am very interested in puppetry and have been thinking for a long time about creating a puppet show featuring a seedling puppet and the story would be of the seedling’s journey and struggles of becoming a full grown tree. I would love to read about the book and all the characteristics of trees. I feel like it could really inform my puppet idea.
Kim,
DeleteI just love that! This book would be so great for that. I was literally sitting there reading this book almost sobbing (clearly I am a mess lol) because the author talks about how the trees nurture their babies or old friends and it really just brought them to life for me.
Hi Darla,
ReplyDeleteThis books sounds really interesting and well-written-I'm almost afraid to read it! It took me a long time to move past the notion that every rock and tree has a personality and feelings and a family (Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas is 100% to blame) and this sounds like it would take me right back there. Definitely added to my TBR list!
It totally will!! But it's so worth it!
DeleteAdding to my TBR now. This looks super interesting. Great job on your summary and appeals (the layout as always looks great as well) - full points!
